Mammoth Hot Springs And Cabins In Yellowstone Is Opening Soon

The flooding in Yellowstone of June 2022 was a 500 year flooding event.  The world watched as the park flooded and the Park Service got to work.

From Hour One Of Flooding To Now, The Park Has Been On Top Of Things

From The National Park Service:

The park jumped in immediately to insure the health and safety of visitors and employees by restoring power and diverting damaged waste water systems.  Within 36 hours they had evacuated all visitors and assessed the damage.  Within 48 hours, power was totally restored and the parts of the park that could be re-opened were reopened.

The Mammoth Waste System Was A Bigger Problem

Unfortunately, a sewer line that carried waste water from Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins to the sewage treatment plant in Gardiner ruptured.  Staff rerouted the waste to some percolator ponds that had been used in the 30's to the 60's, and allowed for day use of the facilities.  A new waste treatment system was going to need to be built.

The Opening Of The New Waste Treatment System Had A Weather Delay

The project had a projected finish date of April 28, 2023.  Due to a very cold winter and higher than average snow pack, the opening was delayed.

Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins Is Opening For The Season

From Yellowstone National Park Lodges:

With the successful completion of contracted repairs to the Mammoth wastewater treatment system, the National Park Service has announced that the system is operational. With this news, we will be opening the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel for the summer 2023 season on July 1.
