Snow will continue to fall across most of Montana through at least Friday morning. Higher elevations are getting lots of snow, while the valleys are seeing less but frequent light snowfalls. Thursday night is expected to bring lots more snow, along with some wind. 

Travel could be quite difficult in some parts of Montana during this storm, especially during evening and early morning hours. Gusty winds can make even light snowfalls appear as whiteouts while you're driving.

Some western Mountains mountains may get another FOOT of fresh snow and have gustier winds - with possible wind chill issues. There are Storm Warnings and Weather Advisories issued across most of Montana.

  • WHAT...Heavy snow.
  • Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 6 inches for lower elevations and 7 to 10 inches for higher elevations.
  • WHERE...Big Belt, Bridger and Castle Mountains and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
  • WHEN...Until 5 AM Friday.
  • IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

For the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains: Periods of heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations between 3 and 8 inches. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph creating areas of blowing snow and increased avalanche danger.

  • WHAT...Snow expected.
  • Total snow accumulations between 5 and 12 inches.
  • North to east winds 10 to 20 mph develop Thursday night.
  • WHERE...Dixie, Elk City, and Highway 12 Lowell to Lolo Pass.
  • WHEN...Until 7 AM Friday.
  • IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes.
  • The raw conditions may affect young animals.
