Huge Tax Rebate For Montana Homeowners? Here’s How to Claim It
The State of Montana is giving property owners a chance to claim a property tax rebate of up to $675 in 2023 and 2024. Here are the details.
If you're a property owner in Montana, you most likely have been mailed information about the property tax rebate from the Montana Department of Revenue. In June, taxpayers who owned residential property during Tax Year 2022 received a postcard about the rebate.
Dear Montana Taxpayer,
Governor Greg Gianforte recently signed into law a property tax rebate, providing eligible homeowners with up to $675 this year. You can begin the process of requesting your property tax rebate on August 15, 2023. We will send you more information in the coming weeks.
The new law will provide Montana homeowners with up to $1,350 in property tax rebates over the next two years. Each rebate is $675 or an amount that doesn't exceed the property taxes on a principal Montana residence for each year.
Are You Qualified?
To qualify, you must be a Montana taxpayer who, in the claim year, was billed and paid property taxes on your principal residence, and have done the following:
- owned a Montana residence for at least seven months
- lived in the Montana residence for at least seven months
- were billed for property taxes, including special assessments and other fees, on the residence
- paid the property taxes on the residence
Only one rebate per household is permitted. Eligible Montana homeowners must file a claim for the tax rebate beginning on Tuesday, August 15 at getmyrebate.mt.gov. The claim must be filed by October 1, 2023. For more information about the Montana Property Tax Rebate, click here.
