Our General Manager Karen surprised us with lunch today at the High Horse Saloon and Eatery, located at 3953 Montana Avenue in Billings.  And for a midday meal, my coworkers and I relished the fine dining.  But instead of me trying to be a food critic, let's hear the reviews from them:

Jaci, the Digital Managing Editor: "I had the Cowboy Steak Lunch with Loaded Hot Crush Potatoes (pictured above). The steak was cooked just right, but the real star of the plate was the potatoes. Everyone I know goes to the High Horse specifically for those potatoes. They are the best thing on the menu. The biggest benefit of getting a steak on the side of the potatoes? Bringing home scraps for my dogs, forever endearing me to them."

Michael the Mix Morning Show host and Director of Content: "I started with a cup of their homemade beef barley soup - excellent! - and chose the 10 oz lunch prime rib with flavorful au jus and zesty horseradish on the side. The prime rib was prepared perfectly to my medium-rare specification and was just the right portion for lunch. Their hand-cut shoestring fries are arguably among the best in town."

Our new Engineer Andrew had the Cowboy Steak Lunch, 14 ounces and seared blackened, with loaded hot crush potato.  When asked about the meal, this soft-spoken gentleman said "Really, really good."

Karen the General Manager: "I had the build your own omelet because I was craving eggs.  Made with 3 fluffy eggs. I had ham and bacon with cheddar cheese, onions, black olives and mushrooms with a side of their amazing loaded hot crushed potatoes, accompanied by a Diet Coke and a glass of water. There was so much food, I could only eat half and took the other half with me to have for breakfast tomorrow. Lunch at the High Horse never disappoints.  Our server was Gretchen, and she is always amazing."

I chose the lunch staple, the Stagecoach Burger, with a slice of provolone cheese.  This protein combination gave a unique taste that I savored without condiments.  Sometimes less is more.  I enjoyed the hot crushed potatoes with butter.  Like Karen, I ate half the sandwich with all the potatoes and will treat myself to the other half to welcome the weekend.

And yes, the High Horse serves breakfast and supper.

Got your mouth watering?  One more added benefit to the High Horse: air conditioning.  After these long hot weeks, we all deserve a culinary experience.  Let's make some self-love a priority soon at the High Horse.
