Pizza is awesome.

Thin crust, thick crust, Chicago style, New York style, they're all good and largely come down to personal preference. Every pizza has its place too, from gourmet pizzas with unique ingredients to cheap "hot and ready" or bake-at-home pre-made pizzas like a Red Baron or Tombstone.

While Montana is not recognized as a national hotspot for primo pizza, there are plenty of great restaurants across the Treasure State that are serving delicious pies. Howard's in Great Falls is legendary, as is Eugene's Pizza in Glasgow. Every town seems to have at least one local favorite. We tried some of Billings' best earlier this summer at Pizza Palooza.

This is not 'Montana-style' pizza.

You've probably seen those food abomination videos all over social media where people take a bunch of crap ingredients, dump it all into a pan and make "the best thing you've ever tasted! My kids love it!"

It's usually garbage like chicken nuggets and hot dogs mixed with macaroni and broccoli or some other nonsense smothered with a bag of shredded cheese. The example in this story isn't quite as disgusting, but it is weird. And it's certainly not anything I've ever seen being eaten anywhere in Montana.

It's more like a pizza-inspired hot dish.

If you don't feel like watching the video, here's how they make what they refer to as Montana-style pizza. They start with a standard Papa Murphy's pepperoni pizza. So far, so good. Then they roll it up like a giant doobie and slice the roll of pizza into a bunch of smaller circles.

Next, they slop some pizza sauce in the bottom of a baking dish and arrange the pizza roll things on the pan. Kind of like making cinnamon rolls. Then they dump a pile of cheese on top and stick it in the oven. Voila! It's not pizza, it's not a calzone, and it's certainly not 'Montana style' anything.

Would you make this dish? Why not just cook the pizza as-is? We're all for creativity in the kitchen but we're having a tough time finding the benefit of making what is essentially a pizza casserole. Surely the crust is super doughy and gross.
