The male has been pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Today, at 12:58 PM, the Billings Police Department responded to the 400 block of North 31st for a male armed with a machete causing a disturbance.

Officers arrived on the scene and located the male who was still armed.

Negotiations with the male were attempted, and the male was non-compliant with Officer requests.

Officers attempted the use of a non-lethal option but it was not effective.

An unnamed officer with the Billings Police Department proceeded to discharge his firearm, striking the male.

The male was transported to an area hospital via AMR.

BPD Detectives are on the scene. North 31st will remain closed from 4th Avenue North to 6th Avenue North while the investigation is completed.

Today, around 12:57 PM, the Billings Police Department was called to respond to a male suspect waving a machete at people.

On arrival, the suspect has been uncooperative with officers and their commands.

BPD is asking you to avoid North 31st Street, between 4th & 6th Avenues North until further notice.
