Bruce Springsteen and Don Henley Highlight Jackson Browne Tribute Album
Given the glut of tribute records released over the past couple of decades, it seems impossible that Jackson Browne hasn't gotten one yet -- but that oversight will be corrected on April 1, when an all-star assemblage of musicians comes together for the double-disc set 'Looking Into You: A Tribute to Jackson Browne.'
Featuring an admirably even blend of new artists, grizzled veterans, famous faces and cult favorites, 'Looking Into You' collects 23 new versions of Browne classics, starting with Don Henley's version of 'These Days' and including Bonnie Raitt and David Lindley's cover of 'Everywhere I Go,' Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa collaborating on 'Linda Paloma' and J.D. Souther's set-closing take on 'My Opening Farewell.' Other artists include Bruce Hornsby, who covers the title track to Browne's 1993 album 'I'm Alive,' and Lyle Lovett, who contributes a pair of performances.
"In the past, I used a house band and would create the arrangements ahead of time," explains co-producer Tamara Saviano, whose previous credits include 'Beautiful Dreamer,' the Grammy-winning Stephen Foster tribute album released in 2004. "But for this album we relied solely on the artists to create their own vision for the songs and gave them complete control over the instrumentation and arrangement. It was a challenge, but it struck me how excited everyone was to honor Jackson in their own way."
