100 Deadliest Days of Summer

According to the MT AG & MHP, we've entered the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer", which isn't exactly a roses and rainbows statement. Why is this time of year nicknamed that?

Attorney General Austin Knudsen's office says that, while traffic fatalities are down so far for 2023 compared to the same time in 2022, statistically they are more fatal crashes between Memorial Day and Labor Day in Montana than any other time of the year.

This year there have been 52 traffic-related fatalities in Montana from January through May 23rd, a 3 percent decrease compared to 2022. As a positive, since 2021, we are down 34 percent.

Many times during these fatal accidents, excessive speeding and/or alcohol are contributing factors leading to the fatalities on Montana roadways.

MT AG Knudsen reminds you:

Have fun with your friends and family this summer, but please, be responsible behind the wheel. Never drive impaired under any circumstances and follow the rules of the road. While I’m glad to see that traffic deaths are slightly down again since this time last year, let’s work together to keep it that way.

And MHP Colonel Steve Lavin shared more:

You put your life and the lives of others on the road in danger when you drive intoxicated. Our troopers will be out in full force all summer to keep drunk and drugged drivers off Montana roads. Make sure you have a plan to get home safely if you go out, and never get in a car with someone who might be under the influence.

How were your Memorial Day travels? Did you experience any wild driving? Let us know on App Chat or Facebook.
