Journey’s Neal Schon Marries Michaele Salahi
In what was billed as "the first pay-per-view wedding to double as a concert and fundraiser for typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines," Journey guitarist Neal Schon wed his betrothed, reality TV star Michaele Salahi, in a televised event on Dec. 15.
The 'Winter Wonderland Wedding and Music Event,' held at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts, drew a suitably star-studded crowd; according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the happy couple had more than 350 guests in attendance, including such famous names as Sammy Hagar, Schon's fellow Journey members Arnel Pineda and Jonathan Cain, the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, reality TV vet Omarosa Manigault, and R&B star Brian McKnight. "This is an amazing, beautiful, over-the-top event," Hagar told the Chronicle. "The ceremony was unbelievable. The minister's rap was the best I ever heard. And on his wedding night, Neal gets to be a musician. Michaele seems to love and embrace that."
In addition to the wedding ceremony (which Schon repeatedly referred to as a 'TRIUMPH OF LOVE' via Twitter), the 'Winter Wonderland' also included sets by Journey and Tower of Power, as well as a solo instrumental performance from a leather-vested Schon, who dedicated what the Chronicle referred to as an "instrumental rock ballad" to his new bride.
Information regarding the number of paying viewers was unavailable at press time, but the newlyweds have pledged to send a portion of the proceeds to relief efforts on behalf of victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines last month. Journey has already offered $350,000 for the cause -- even more than the $246,000 it cost Schon to use the Palace of Fine Arts for his wedding.
