We're heading into the unofficial end of summer and with near-record high temps in the forecast for the Billings area, locals might be thinking about heading to Red Lodge sometime this Labor Day Weekend. It's still expected to be hot in the Lodge (around 90 degrees on Sat, Sun, and Mon) but that'll be a solid ten degrees cooler than the Billings area.

Here are six things you can do in Red Lodge on Labor Day Weekend.

Find a patio and enjoy a local brew.

You might develop a thirst while strolling Broadway, so pop into a bar and try a beer or two from local and Montana brewers.

See what's new at the Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary.

My kids love visiting the animal rescue sanctuary. Its relatively compact footprint makes it easy for little ones to walk the property without getting exhausted. Our personal favorite is seeing the bears up-close.

Drop by the Roman Theater for Top Gun.

If you need a break from the heat, slide into the air-conditioned comfort of the Roman Theater and catch Top Gun: Maverick, before it leaves the big screen. The Roman opened in 1917 and has been showing first-run movies ever since. State-of-the-art projection and sound were installed in 2014. Doors open nightly at 6:30 pm, with showtime at 7 pm.

Pig Races in Bearcreek.

It's the last weekend to enjoy some of the hottest racing action in Montana at the Bearcreek Saloon. Pick your pig, place your bets, and maybe you'll walk away with some cash.

Try a new restaurant.

I get into the habit of always visiting the same restaurant(s) in Red Lodge. There's nothing wrong with having a favorite spot, but consider exploring somewhere you've never dined before. The restaurant scene in Red Lodge is constantly evolving and you'll surely notice a place or two that you've never tried. Check one out and maybe you'll discover a new favorite.

There's so much to do in Red Lodge.

We've barely scratched the surface. Hike, bike, fish, drive to the top of Beartooth Pass, hit the candy store, and maybe drop by the tee shirt shop for a new fall hoodie or grab a fresh sticker for your hydro flask. Perhaps we'll see you in Red Lodge this weekend.
