REO Speedwagon, ‘Ridin’ the Storm Out’ – Song Premiere
On May 27, REO Speedwagon will release 'The Box Set Series,' a four-disc collection that brings together many of their best-loved songs. Ultimate Classic Rock is pleased to have the exclusive premiere of the lone unreleased track, a studio version of 'Ridin' the Storm Out' with Kevin Cronin on vocals.
'Ridin' the Storm Out,' which can be heard above, is the title track to their 1974 album. After they had finished recording the album, Cronin had a falling out with the rest of the band. His vocal tracks were replaced by Mike Murphy, who remained in REO Speedwagon for the next two albums before Cronin re-joined.
Cronin recorded the song on the group's commercial breakthrough, 1977's 'Live: You Get What You Play For,' but for years it had been believed that Cronin's vocals had been lost. When REO Speedwagon were licensing the song for the 'Rock Band 2' video game, they went back to the original multi-track tape and learned they had not been erased. This newly discovered take has been remixed for this compilation.
REO Speedwagon are currently on a tour that will see them do a series of co-headlining shows with Chicago in August. You can get all the dates at their website. You can purchase 'The Box Set Series' via Amazon.
