Safety At The County Courthouse
I was called to jury duty on Tuesday in Yellowstone County. I'll be the first one to do my civic duty. The process was slow but I've been through this before. My "paper" said to show up at 11:30 am. It just happens to be in the middle of my day, but I went. After checking in with the 60+ of us in the jury pool, had to wait another hour. The first 27 names were called to be questioned by council. I was not one but I still had to stay as a potential juror.
During our break around 3 p.m., I noticed this sign in the hall. Keep in mind I'm on the 5th floor of the courthouse. What happens if I have an emergency? Do I run down the steps to the 4th floor? The sign says go to the nearest office, but they were all private or "employee only" signs. "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up, I can't do jury duty." Nope, out of luck, I guess.
