Watch Bob Weir & Ratdog Perform ‘Me & My Uncle’ at Mountain Jam
Former Grateful Dead member Bob Weir sure kept busy at this past weekend's Mountain Jam Festival. In addition to a guest appearance with the acclaimed Avett Brothers on Friday evening, Weir and his band Ratdog delivered a killer version of the song 'Me & My Uncle' during their headlining set on Friday night. Footage of the group's performance can be seen above.
'Me & My Uncle' was written by the Mamas and the Papas member John Phillips, apparently in a less than coherent state. At a party in 1969, he reportedly performed and subsequently gave the song to folk singer Judy Collins -- but didn't realize he had done so until he received a royalty check for the song almost a year later.
The song was one of many classics played during Weir's marathon set on Friday night. Gov't Mule and Allman Brothers Band member Warren Haynes joined the group on stage during their second set of the evening, performing the Dead's 'Dark Star.' Singer Jonathan Wilson made an appearance on stage as well, playing ‘West L.A. Fadeaway’ as well as a cover of the Jerry Garcia Band’s ‘Don’t Let Go.’
Bob Weir was one of the Grateful Dead's founding members. After Jerry Garcia's passing in 1995, Weir has performed with Ratdog as well as the post-Grateful Dead groups the Others, who later became known as simply the Dead.
