After living nearly my entire life in Montana, I've come to rely on a few things. One of those things is the simple fact that our own Mother Nature here in Montana... does as she wishes. No silly groundhog is going to tell her what to do, or how to do it. So... why does the whole US care what a groundhog "says" will happen?

2024: Phil Sees His Shadow

For the 138th time at Gobbler's Knob today, Punxsutawney Phil "spoke" and said an early spring awaits us. Does this mean we can finally put away the winter boots and clothes, and focus on shorts and flip-flops? No. Absolutely not, when you are a Montanan.

But why does that mean you shouldn't put stuff away? Let's take a look at the extended forecast (which I trust a smidge more than a groundhog):

Saturday? Cloudy, 45

Sunday? Cloudy, 43

Monday? Partly Cloudy, 49

Tuesday...? Snow, 42.

So, yeah, Maybe we shouldn't trust a groundhog. Knowing Montana and the weather around here... we're primed and ready for a massive snowstorm in early February. And in reality, we know better than to trust Phil. We're not in the clear for nice weather here in Montana until April at the earliest (and we MIGHT even get snow in MAY).
