5 Easy Tips for Surviving Winter in Montana
Last year was my first experience with winter in Montana. It sucked. Luckily, I managed to survive thanks to a few helpful tips from the friendly natives.
1. Drink lots of Fireball - Cinnamon whiskey is like anti-freeze for your body. A couple shots will warm your bones, no matter how cold it is outside. Carrying a flask is strongly recommended for any prolonged outdoor activity.
2. Put socks on your wiper blades - Don't you hate it when your wiper blades get frozen stuck to the windshield? Wrap 'em in a pair of stinky old gym socks. The foot funk will keep the ice away.
3. Same goes for your rear view mirrors - Your car mirrors don't come with a defrost button. Scraping them is a pain in the ass, especially when they're covered with that thick layer of ice. Cover those bad boys with your socks (or a plastic bag) and save yourself some time in the morning.
4. Bubble wrap your windows - What can't bubble wrap do? It definitely can help insulate your house in the winter. If you've got a drafty window, just cut out a sheet of bubble wrap and stick it on. You can even pop the bubbles first.
5. Salt your driveway with kitty litter - If you don't have the time or money to buy a winter mix for your driveways and walkways, grab a handful of kitty litter and spread it out. It works just like rock salt, without all the messy cleanup. In a pinch, you can also pour a little vodka on the ground as a deicer. I suggest the old "one shot for the driveway, one for me" approach.
