Journey Tops ‘Best Driving Songs’ Poll

Statistically speaking, not many of us are small-town girls living in a lonely world. But that obviously hasn’t kept us from rocking out behind the wheel to Journey‘s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.’

Insurance.com surveyed 2,000 drivers to determine the best and worst driving songs, and once all the numbers were crunched, ‘Don’t Stop Believin” topped the “best” list with 30 percent of the vote, narrowly edging out Queen‘s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (27 percent).

It’s a classic-rock-heavy list, with appearances from AC/DC in third place (‘You Shook Me All Night Long,’ 22 percent), Journey again in fourth (‘Any Way You Want It,’ 22 percent), Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in seventh (‘American Girl,’ 16 percent), Bruce Springsteen in ninth (‘Born to Run,’ 14 percent), Creedence Clearwater Revival in 10th (‘Fortunate Son,’ 14 percent) and the Beatles in 14th (‘Drive My Car,’ 13 percent).

Insurance.com’s poll allowed respondents to choose five songs as well as contribute write-in song titles — a segment of the vote that included AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell,’ Golden Earring‘s ‘Radar Love’ and (of course) ‘I Can’t Drive 55′ by Sammy Hagar.

In other driving music news, Esquire recently reached out to Rosanne Cash (whose new album, ‘The River & the Thread,’ is out this week) to put together a road-trip playlist, and she responded with an impeccably sequenced set including classic Bob Dylan and Randy Newman tracks. Between Cash and Insurance.com, your car stereo should be taken care of for quite awhile.
