If you're a baseball fan like I am, you'll find this interesting. The New York Times recently published a map of America which shows the favorite Major League Baseball team for each county in the country.

In spite of the long association between Billings and the Cincinnati Reds organization, the Reds aren't one of the Yellowstone County's favorite teams.  According to the article, which is derived from Facebook page information compiled nationwide, the Colorado Rockies are the most popular team in Yellowstone County.

But it's close.  They say 13% of county baseball fans root for the Rockies, followed closely by the Red Sox and Yankees, who each account for 12% of our local fan base.  Over in Big Horn County, 18% of fans are Rockies faithful, compared to 13% Yankees fans and 11% Red Sox fans.

As you travel further west in Montana, those allegiances change.  In Bozeman, the Yankees are the most popular team, followed by the Rockies and Mariners.  There's a lot of Yankees fans in Great Falls too, where 16% pull for New York, with Seattle and Boston not far behind.

Missoula is Mariners country.  The article estimates the Mariners supporters account for 19% of baseball fans in Missoula county.  Same goes for Helena, where 17% of the fans in Lewis and Clark County consider the M's their favorite team.

In the eastern part of the state, the Twins are popular.  Especially in Carbon County, where 21% of fans pull for Minnesota.

If you want to check it out for yourself, here's a link to the map.  Scroll up to Montana and then zoom in for a closer view of our favorite baseball teams.  Sadly, my beloved Chicago Cubs were no where to found in Montana.  But that's ok.  Just wait 'til next year.
