As 1976 came to a close, Styx was a moderately successful band still breaking in a new guitarist/singer.

Two years (and two albums) later, the band — fueled by the fresh songwriting and six-string contributions of Tommy Shaw — was among the best-selling acts in America.

Styx recently revisited its platinum-selling one-two punch of 1977′s ‘The Grand Illusion’ and 1978′s ‘Pieces of Eight’ on tour, and Eagle Rock will release the sights and sounds from one show on Jan. 31.

Recorded Nov. 9, 2010, in Memphis, ‘The Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight Live’ will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and as a DVD/two-CD set. The albums are performed in their entirety from start to finish, so fans well-versed in their Styxtory can work out their air guitar moves well in advance for such signature songs as ‘Come Sail Away,’ ‘Blue Collar Man’ and ‘Renegade.’

Also included is a bonus featured titled ‘Putting on the Show,’ which delves into the inner workings of presenting the Styx concert.
