According to a growing number of concerned social media posts from his peers, Bad Brains guitarist Gary "Dr. Know" Miller is said to be suffering from an undisclosed ailment so serious that he's reportedly been placed on life support.

Although no official confirmation has been issued as of this writing, the list of musicians sharing well wishes and urging prayers includes Dean Ween, Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover and Black Rock Coalition co-founder Greg Tate, who learned of Dr. Know's condition from 24-7 Spyz guitarist Jimi Hazel.

Originally founded as a fusion group named Mind Power, Bad Brains significantly altered their sound in the late '70s after catching the punk bug, adding a quixotic burst of aggression to a sprawling sound that absorbed elements of funk, jazz, reggae and metal. Though mainstream commercial success has always managed to elude the band, due in part to consistent creative tensions leading to number of breakups and lineup changes, they've long been widely respected — not to mention hugely influential on a long list of acts both in and out of the hardcore punk movement.

While we await official word on Miller's condition and hold out hope for a complete recovery, check out the title track to Bad Brains' best-selling album, 1986's I Against I.
