As the nation prepares to pay its respects to those who died in active military service on Memorial Day, the day will no doubt carry an extra special significance for Montanans.

Veterans are held in high regard in Montana throughout the year, not just on Memorial Day. That fact is underscored by a new study from WalletHub, a a social media company that allows people to search for and compare financial products. Montana ranks the second best state in the nation for military retirees. Wyoming is ranked No. 1. Rounding out the top five states were South Dakota in third place, followed by Maine in fourth place, followed by Florida in fifth place. Indiana was ranked the worst state for military retirees.

To compile the study, "2015's Best and Worst States for Military Retirees," WalletHub took  into account 20 key factors.  into account in devising its rankings. The factors included employment opportunities, access to VA health care facilities, housing affordability, cost of living, quality of life, homelessness among veterans and more.

Montana also ranked second in having the most veterans per 100 residents. Alaska is ranked No. 1 with the most veterans per 100 people.

Additionally, Montana is ranked No. 1 when it comes to having the most veteran-owned businesses per 1,000 residents.
