Don Felder, former guitarist for the Eagles, will release his first solo album in nearly three decades, ‘Road to Forever,’ on Oct. 9. The record’s lead track, ‘Fall From the Grace of Love,’ can be heard below.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted musician wrote and sang all of the songs on ‘Road to Forever,’ with help from guest stars such as all three members of Crosby, Stills & Nash, Tommy Shaw of Styx, as well as Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro of Toto.

As you can hear from ‘Fall From the Grace of Love,’ Felder’s mastery of the easy-going country rock style and beautiful melodies employed by his former band remain intact.

Felder joined the Eagles in 1974 and helped propel the group to the top of the rock world with his guitar playing and songwriting skills — he was the one who composed the music for ‘Hotel California,’ for example. He was a part of the band’s 1994 ‘Hell Freezes Over’ reunion, but left the group acrimoniously in 2001. His 2008 memoir, ‘Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles (1974-2001),’ earned him a spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

Following that career-changing split and the end of his 29-year marriage,  Felder was inspired to “write out the stories of my life as songs. After I collected myself, I found I needed to go out and play music again, and that’s how I began recording the album. In the process, I found out who I really am – I had to find out what happened when I almost lost it all.”
