Hackers Swiftly Identify Disgruntled Lettuce-Stomping Burger King Employee
A disgruntled Burger King employee was quickly shown the door after posting a knees-down photo of himself standing in lettuce meant for sandwiches — and then having his identity outed by a group of crack internet sleuths.
The picture, which showed the worker standing in tubs of lettuce with his shoes on, was posted to hacking site 4Chan and subtitled “this is the lettuce you eat at Burger King.” The guy probably thought he was being clever — but if he was that clever, he never would’ve chosen 4Chan to brag about it.
Minutes after the post went live on the site, members there used the GPS info on the photo to trace the location of the exact Cleveland eatery where it was taken — and then they forwarded that information to area news outlets.
None of the lettuce was actually eaten by customers, and the three employees involved in the stunt have since been canned. In a statement, Burger King said in part, “Food safety is a top priority at all [our] restaurants and the company maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any violations such as the one in question.”
4Chan users may be known for their internet hijinks, but let this be a lesson: if there’s one thing you apparently don’t want to mess with, it’s their food.
