Bozeman Anesthesiologist Dies By Suicide After Child Sexual Assault Arrest

A Bozeman anesthesiologist who was arrested and charged with felony sexual assault of children has died after committing suicide while in detention.

Jeffrey Scheihing was arrested on November 25th and, just two days later, died by suicide while in detention, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigation Triggered By ICAC Alert

Authorities began investigating Jeffrey on October 17th after the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force was alerted to an email account linked to him that registered several accounts on the messaging app Kik, which contained "apparent child pornography."

On September 17th & 18th, 2024, and November 16th & 26th, 2024, Jeffrey had shared videos and photos of juvenile boys with other users.

Then in March of 2025, Jeffrey again engaged in sexually explicit conversations with multiple Kik users about children and sexually molesting male children.

Affiliation With Gallatin Valley Anesthesia Associates

Scheihing was a member of the Gallatin Valley Anesthesia Associates and had privileges at Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center since 2019; he was, however, not an employee.

Bozeman Health released the following statement:

"We are aware that a local medical provider with privileges at our hospital was arrested outside of work on charges unrelated to our facility. We had no prior knowledge of the investigation and were not contacted by law enforcement during their investigation. We have no information suggesting any concerns related to the individual's work within our facilities."

Family Tragedy: Prior Murder–Suicide Involving Father

In an unsettling twist of family history, this is not the first suicide connected to the Scheihing family; Jeffrey’s father also died by suicide in 2020 after murdering his wife.

On January 1st, 2020, Daniel Paul Scheihing was arrested and admitted to hitting his wife over the head with a hammer numerous times.

He then loaded her into the car and drove around for an hour before crashing into a power pole in an attempt to cover up the murder.

Daniel then died two days later on January 3rd after committing suicide in his jail cell.

Jeffrey's case has now been handed over to the Montana Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigations to determine the cause of death.
