From Milan to Montana, the Face of True Grit
As I get ready to turn on the microphone for the radio show on this Monday morning- there's two photos that stand out: The smiley bloody tooth knocked out mouth of US Olympic hockey gold medalist, and the epic photo of a state champ wrestler in Montana drinking straight out of his sweaty shoe following the win.
Jack Hughes. He scored the game winning goal as the US scored our big victory over Canada for the first gold medal in hockey since the Miracle on Ice 46 years ago when the US defeated the Soviets. That's the photo on the left. And he scored that goal AFTER getting his teeth knocked out.
The photo on the right: that is the 165 pound Class B/C state champ wrestler from Glasgow, Montana- William Kirkland. Pierre Bibbs of Malta was sharing some incredible photos from the state wrestling tournament at the Metra in Billings all weekend, and this was one of them that caught my eye. Amber Hagen Kirkland summed it up well on Facebook by saying, "Crazy shoey!"
(By the way, thanks to Pierre for giving us permission to share that photo...and for those of you who love his photos- please show him support by donating to his efforts or purchasing some photos on his website)
By the way, if you missed any of the coverage over the weekend of the hockey game, I've got several highlights below. The game winning goal. The hockey team singing Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue." The phone call from President Trump. And, of course, the team honoring the two little kids of their former teammate who lost his life.
