Resources on the scene.

Firefighting efforts have been helped with recent rainfall in the area, dropping temperatures, and additional humidity. 105 personnel have been assigned to the fire. The cause is unknown at this time. Officials report no significant movement of the fire, which is now "smoldering and creeping."

The perimeter is now 75% contained and they report that the forward rate of speed has been stopped.  Personnel from Carbon County, the Montana Department of Natural Resources, BLM, and BIA anticipate the fire will be 100% contained by Friday (8/19).

Fire restrictions remain across the state.

We might be thinking fall and cooler weather, but it's been hot and dry into August and many counties in Montana are still under some form of fire restrictions. Stage 1 restrictions are currently in place for Yellowstone County, Musselshell County, and Big Horn County.

Stage 1 Restrictions.

During Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, the following acts are prohibited:

1. Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire unless noted in the exemptions below; and

2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren and cleared of all flammable materials.

The "exemptions" are slim. See the PDF HERE.
