Pamela Anderson Vows to Tell ‘The Real Story’ in New Documentary
Pamela Anderson is not involved in the Hulu series Pam & Tommy, but will be "setting the record straight" in a new Netflix documentary.
The candid peak into Anderson's story has been in the works for several years but just recently became official, Netflix said in a statement. The still-untitled movie will be an "intimate portrait embedded in the life of Pamela Anderson as she looks back at her professional and personal path and prepares for the next steps on her journey." Anderson’s son Brandon Thomas Lee will serve as a producer on the project.
More than two decades after a stolen sex tape featuring Anderson and then-husband Tommy Lee made its way to the world via VHS bootlegs and online streams, the well-known story has been retold in the 2022 Pam & Tommy series. "I made not one dollar [off the sex tape]," Anderson declared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in 2015. "It was stolen property."
Anderson hasn’t spoken publicly about the Hulu series, but there have been reports that she's unhappy with the show. Us Weekly relayed that Anderson wouldn't be watching the Pam & Tommy because she wasn't involved in the show's production. Though Lee wasn't involved either, the Motley Crue drummer has appeared more outwardly supportive of the series, calling it a "beautiful story." Lee has yet to comment publicly on Anderson's new documentary.
Now 54, the former Baywatch actress shared news of the upcoming film with a hand-written note posted to Instagram.
The documentary will be directed by Ryan White, whose past works include the Netflix series The Keepers and The Case Against 8 for HBO. Movieweb.com reported producers will be granted exclusive access to Anderson's journals and private footage to create the new film.
In 2020, Andy Cohen asked Anderson about the eight-minute video that took a budding internet by storm. “That was not a sex tape,” Anderson said. “That was a compilation of vacations that we were naked on.”
A release date for the upcoming documentary has yet to be announced.
