January 23, 2012 will mark the end of the Year of the Rabbit and the beginning of the year of the Water Dragon. We will leave the world of reality and commence on a journey into pure fantasy. What will this new year bring?

Not only will 2012 be the year of the dragon, but it will be the Year of the Water Dragon. This means we will not be racked with the strife that a fire dragon can bring; instead we will feel the levelheadedness of the water dragon. Dragons of all kinds share the qualities of confidence and fearlessness. Water dragons are able to get a grasp on those qualities, rein them in, and take a step back from situations before they take any fateful leaps.

2012 will be the year to do things on a grand scale. Dragons are the definition of grand. They are the rulers of their destiny and there is nothing that can control them. This year we must also go big or go home. In a dragon’s world nothing is worth doing if it’s not spectacular. In the essence of the water dragon, don’t leap blindly, but do leap. Be fearless and don’t let others hold you back.

The last time we saw the water dragon was in 1952. During that year, Anne Frank took control of her destiny by publishing her dairy. The realm of reality was left behind when the first MAD magazine was published. We were also graced with the entrance of Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff into our world.

Now is the time for all of us to strive to do better. Refuse to let anything hold you back and make 2012 the best Year of the Water Dragon yet. Embrace your inner dragon and break all of the rules. In 2012, nothing is safe.
