When the World Food Championship’s top competitors from categories including best steak, best bacon, best sandwich and best dessert face off, the award-winning Burger Dive of Billings will stand tall, having taken first place in the event’s burger championship. The “Ultimate Food Fight” was Tuesday in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Burger Dive owner Brad Halsten said the final round of the World Burger Championship challenged teams to use patties from event sponsor Bubba Burger and double oak bourbon from Jim Beam. The teams were free to choose all other ingredients. The Billings competitors combined the bourbon with dates and Coca-Cola to create a barbecue sauce that was spread over a burger featuring roasted garlic cloves, smoked Gouda and a garlic basil mayonnaise. It’s a recipe that’s never been served in the Billings restaurant but might make a brief appearance when Halsten and his family return from the World Food Championships.
