Auggie Smith wasn't a popular kid at Billings Central Catholic School. Growing up, he was so awkward, his mom actually enrolled him a boxing program to "toughen him up". And while his other classmates got the girls and the grades, the former captain of the speech team ended up getting the last laugh.

After (barely) graduating from Central, Auggie left for Portland, Oregon, to try his luck in stand up comedy.  Several years later, he took his act on the road and began to compete in comedy competitions across the country.  Now based in Los Angeles, Smith has made a name for himself as one of the most outrageous characters in comedy.

Even though he's on the road year round, Auggie will always consider Billings home. In an interview this week, Smith joked that his ultimate dream would be for his alma matter to name the speech club in his honor. He also fantasized about visiting the nuns, who he tormented in school, one more time, claiming that by "going to bars every night", he's become a role model that they could finally be proud of.

As for his reputation as a drunken, crazed lunatic?  Smith claims that's all behind him now, pointing out that he's a "changed man" after recently becoming a father. We'll see about that Friday night when Auggie headlines the Friends of Bob and Tom Comedy Show at the Alberta Bair Theater.
