When I was a kid I used to love visiting pawn shops with my dad. They were so much more fun than going to fabric stores or grocery shopping with mom. Pawn shops are full of "guy stuff" and even as kids we never got bored looking at all the guns, tools and guitars. The only thing better than a pawn shop was an Army surplus store (the stuff of 11-year-old me dreams!) and there was not one located nearby when I was growing up.

We're lucky to have one of the better military surplus stores in the region, Billings Army Navy, located on the corner of Montana Avenue and 29th St. I wandered by the store today to do some window shopping and as soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed by that sweet familiar smell of military surplus. What does military surplus smell like? A combination of oil, leather, wool, steel with a subtle hint of pure awesomeness.
