Montana: We Tried Wendy’s Krabby Patty so You Don’t Have To
I'm not usually a sucker for fast-food marketing gimmicks.
"Oooh! Tangled crispy onions and a zesty BBQ sauce! [insert latest food trend here]. "Wow." I think, sarcastically, whenever a big chain rolls out something that will allegedly change my life but never does. I rarely fall for these "limited-time" offerings at the drive-through.
HOWEVER. Wendy's got me today with their latest creation... The Krabby Patty Combo. It launched this week to much social media and TV marketing fanfare.

The Krabby Patty does not contain crab, neither real nor fake.
When I first heard about this Nickelodeon/Wendy's collab earlier this month, I thought there was no way that Wendy's could be launching some crazy seafood burger. Thankfully, they did not. Can you imagine a fast-food crab cake? Ew.
There is no lobster sauce drizzle on the all-beef patty, nor a single drop of clam juice. The Krabby Patty is essentially a Dave's Double with a "special sauce."
When I placed my order at the Laurel, MT drive-through at lunchtime on 10/16, I was given the option of single, double, or triple for my Krabby Patty combos. I chose doubles for my spouse and me, while my kid - home sick from school - opted for a Jr Bacon Cheeseburger instead.
What does the sauce taste like?
That's just it. On my hot, fresh, Krabby Patty I did not notice any particularly unique flavors. Perhaps they didn't apply enough of the "special Krabby Patty Sauce", because my limited edition burger tasted exactly like a Dave's Double.
It was loaded with lettuce, pickles, cheese, onions, and two square beef parties, and it was good, yes. Just not unique. And, I should have ordered a single. Every time I order a double at Wendy's I remember that it's a lot of beef. My stomach would pop on a triple.
Moving on to the pineapple Frosty.
The Krabby Patty double combos are $10.99 and include a small pineapple-flavored Frosty instead of a drink. It's a regular vanilla Frosty, drizzled with a vaguely pineapple-colored syrup sauce. Most of the sauce seemed to be on the outside of the lid on our orders. Looking closer, I could see a tiny bit of the flavoring inside the cup.
The pineapple Frostys are good. The flavoring is not overpowering. I wished it had more, while those who don't love pineapple will probably think it's perfect. After I spooned off the top inch, mine tasted mostly like vanilla.
Would I order it again?
Sure. I like Wendy's. I like Dave's Double (and singles) so why wouldn't I enjoy a Krabby Patty? They taste identical and the Gen X Spongebob Squarepants nostalgia factor makes them fun.
