First off, let me say this: I get why so many people hate tobacco. It's a disgusting, dangerous habit in any form. When they banned smoking in public, I had no issue with it (even though I was a smoker at the time). I enjoyed being able to walk into a bar or restaurant without breathing in smoke. I had no problem stepping outside when I felt the urge to light up.

With smoke, it makes sense. When you're smoking, people around you are breathing in your poison. I get it. I don't however get this concept when it comes to chew. I'm not positive what the second hand spit deaths are in America, but I would guess they are somewhere around zero. Why is it necessary to ban smokeless tobacco on the baseball field? Because it looks gross? Ball scratching look gross. Spitting loogies looks gross. Firing a snot rocket looks gross. None of them are banned. The city of San Francisco said they had the athletes in mind when passing this law which is another baffling thing to me. There are no MLB players under 18. They are all grown ass men who seem to do well without having the city of San Francisco protecting them from themselves.

I hate the word ban. We should ban banning. Banning is un-American.
