The title of Tool's 2006 effort, 10,000 Days, equates to a little more than 27 years. It's taken nearly half that time for the band to unveil the name of the follow up: Fear Inoculum will arrive on Aug. 30.

Tool also announced that their entire back catalog – including the group's four full-length albums and the Opiate EP – will be available digitally on Friday, Aug. 2.

Fear Inoculum comes after more than a year of teasing. In late 2017, drummer Danny Carey said they would "definitely" have it out in the next year. Shortly into 2018, frontman Maynard James Keenan tweeted: “Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks won’t change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory.”

By March 2018, they began tracking, and an instrumental called "Descending" arrived a month later. But in June, Keenan corrected Carey and said the album probably wouldn't be out until 2019.

In early January of this year, Keenan revealed that he had finished recording vocals and Tool were now in the "long process of mixing" the record. A few weeks later, Carey told a fan that the "plan" was to release the project in April. The band's website was later updated with new visualizer graphics.

Throughout his tenure in Tool, Keenan has split his time fronting the supergroup A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. A new Puscifer record is expected in 2020.
