Could Billings NOT Have A White Christmas in 2023? Maybe!
Today, in our Townsquare Universe, I was sent an article from Texas talking about how they MIGHT get a white Christmas this year. Now, as we all know, Texas getting snow... cold... ice... or anything that isn't sunshine usually ends... badly.
However, what about the flip side? Is it possible that Billings could miss out on a white Christmas this year? Oh yeah, it is totally possible.
I'm... Dreaming... of a White Christmas...
Looking at the 10-day forecast from The Weather Channel, it looks like this year we are certainly on track for just that. A chilly, but snow-free Christmas. Essentially becoming chilly Texas this holiday season... with weather being forecasted to be in the low 40's by Tuesday, December 19th.
Though we can only trust those IBM Watson computer-generated models so much... what does a good ol' human think about this potential?
I reached out to our friends at the National Weather Service office here in Billings, and they put me in touch with Joe Lester, Lead Meteorologist for NWS Billings, who shared this short but informative piece of knowledge:
It's too early to say whether or not we will have a white Christmas this year, however, climatologically speaking, we have a 50% chance.
And, local TV Meteorologist and Celebrity Ed McIntosh from Q2 News shared this with me, when I asked his thoughts:
A “White Christmas” is generally defined as having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground. Out of the 89 years that are on record of the Billings airport, 46 have less than an inch or no snow. 43 with an inch. 48%.
So, it's 50/50 right now, essentially... and we will soon know more about whether or not the snow will be here on Christmas.
And we know Michael will be breaking out the grill for Christmas steaks... if the weather allows.
What are your thoughts?
