Montana Ranked Worst State In America For Teen Drivers

If you're the parent of a teenager getting ready to earn their driver's license for the first time, you might want to look away.

According to a new study, when it comes to teenage drivers, Montana is the worst state in America.

WalletHub ranked all 50 states based on how safe they are for teenagers behind the wheel, and Montana came in dead last.

They looked at three major areas to determine the rankings: safety, the economic environment for teens, and driving laws in each state.

We didn't exactly come out looking great in any of those categories.

Montana ranked 49th for safety and 49th for driving laws. We did a little better when it came to the economic environment for teens, coming in at #40.

Montana's Teen DUI And Traffic Fatality Rankings

The biggest reason we're ranked so poorly appears to be fatalities. Montana came in at #49 in that category, with only Mississippi ranking worse.

We also ranked #49 when it comes to teen DUI rates per population.

Of course, this doesn't mean every teenager who gets behind the wheel in Montana is a bad driver. It does, however, highlight some of the unique challenges Montana teenagers face when they're driving under the Big Sky.

As the parent of a future driver, rankings like this aren't exactly calming my nerves.

But hey, maybe it's also a good excuse to have a conversation about safe driving without making it sound like another lecture.
