Enrollment for the spring semester at Montana State University has set a record for the 11th consecutive year with 15,694 students.

It is up by more than 4,300 students from spring 2008. That includes an increase of about 200 students from a year ago.

Enrollment for spring semester is typically lower than the fall.

The university's headcount last fall set a new record with 16,902 students.

According to the university  77 percent of first-year students returned for sophomore year — its highest retention rate in 30 years.
