Best Restaurant Views in Billings Are No More. Petroleum Club Closes
The Petroleum Club is now permanently closed.
Situated on the 22nd floor of the DoubleTree Hotel, the swanky private club abruptly closed this week. We found out when a member of our sales department called to go over some details regarding an event we were planning to host at the club later this fall.
Their last day was Tuesday, September 13.
When we called yesterday (9/15), we received a recording that stated the club would be closed permanently, effective at 10 pm on September 13th. I reached out to Petroleum Club board member Mack Shicktanz, who provided this statement,
After sixty-eight wonderful years serving the Billings Community and surrounding area, so many memorable events and a myriad of incredible weddings, the Billings Petroleum Club’s time has come to a close. We want to thank the community for it’s years of support, it’s loyal members, and the incredible memories. We wish the community incredible great growth and success for many years to come.
Access to the 22nd floor was promptly locked to prevent looky-loos and unauthorized access to the richly decorated club and restaurant.
One of the coolest places in Billings.
While the food quality had gone downhill in recent years (in my opinion) I still loved the ambiance and overall experience at the club. With floor-to-ceiling windows, dark, expensive paneling, and the best views in Billings, it always felt so exclusive and fancy.
Deal makers and who's who of Billings.
Founded by Billings businessmen in the 1950s, the club originally gathered in a building next to the long-gone Stockman Bar on Montana Avenue. The Petroleum Club moved to the Northern Hotel in 1960 and when the newly built Sheraton Hotel was completed in 1981, it moved to its present location. Read their history page HERE, before it disappears.
So many great memories.
The glamorous location on top of the DoubleTree has been the spot for countless weddings and special events. We're keeping our fingers crossed that a new restaurant/bar will take over the lease, giving us more opportunities to enjoy a fine dinner with the most romantic views in Billings.
