A Look Back At The Businesses We Lost In Billings In 2023
2023 has come, and gone, and it was certainly a year for the books. Throughout 2023, we saw many local businesses close for good... and I wanted to recap that all in one spot, just for you, to reminisce on the memories!

Crazy Mary's Fish N Chips - January 11th
We started off the year losing Crazy Mary's Fish N' Chips. Not... forever... but until Mary was moved into her new food truck. And, after Mary took time to recover from a heart attack later in the year (She reopened across the street in June). I am glad to have her still around! Meanwhile, the lot has been razed and is being used for another project where the former building stood.
SubZero Nitrogen Ice Cream - January 27th
The start of 2023 saw a hard time for Rimrock Mall: empty storefronts, dwindling foot traffic, and more. I got to know the owners of this shop after writing about it in 2022 and was sad to see it go. It's been replaced by Hot Mess Cookies.
Taco Del Sol - March 6th
After an uneventful February, March came and took Taco Del Sol off of Shiloh, which hadn't been open very long. That building is now replaced by Dickey's Barbecue.
Rehberg Lane Car Wash - March 29th
This was a left-field one, but we caught wind of a car wash being demoed on Rehberg. After inquiring with the city, turns out it became a Taco Bell.
The Midway Grill & Brews / Cajun Phatty's - April 27th
Cajun Phatty's announced the purchase of The Midway Grill & Brews on Grand Avenue, and the plans to move Phatty's to that location. Since that time, both businesses have combined into Phatty's Seafood & Steakhouse.
Name Unknown - Rimrock Mall - April 12th
Next to Zumies in the mall, was a beauty place selling miracle creams and things for YEARS. Finally, that place moved out (to the joy of many who had been irritated by those working there), and was replaced by BoxLunch.
Pizza Hut On Grand - March 28th
After the closure of the aging Pizza Hut on Grand across from Chipotle, the building was razed and replaced by Santiago's Mexican Restaurant, and City Brew moved down a half-block from the shared building they resided in.
The Fieldhouse - June 2nd
After 11 years of being a part of the Billings community, The Fieldhouse locked their doors for the last time.
David's Bridal - June 6th
David's Bridal collapsed nationwide, taking 278 locations with it, into Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
Hitt's The Spot Cafe - July 4th
One of my favorite little spots off the beaten path, Hitts the Spot Cafe @ Billings Livestock Commission closed for good.
Burger King No More - October 2nd
Now, between this closure and the start of the year, another location closed downtown in Billings... we're now down to just King Avenue West, Heights, and Lockwood.
Okinawa Sushi & Asian Bistro - November 2nd
A beloved sushi hotspot in Billings closed down after the owners wanted to relocate.
Honorable Mentions I Couldn't Find The Article For:
I know we've written on it this year, but the Downtown Conoco closed this year and was replaced with an empty lot.
Popeyes Closed Down and was replaced with Dave's Hot Chicken on Shiloh. The South Billings Blvd location remains empty.
Costco closed on King Avenue West, after relocating to around ZooMontana.
